The collaboration began when award-winning Artistic Director Parakrama Niriella met Holsinger at a meeting hosted by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation. The ONUR invited a range of artists from Sinhala, Tamil and English arts to a conference late in 2015, as part of an initiative that is aimed at spreading a message of reconciliation and communal tolerance in our country.
The two directors, whose companies are both devoted to raising social awareness through theatre, agreed to translate and develop the script with the Janakaraliya cast and began rehearsals in February this year.
